Burlington Hydro updated its brand in 2025 to better reflect who it is today — a reliable, modern utility with strong ties to the community and its 68,500 customers. The utility completed a comprehensive brand refresh to create a clearer, more consistent look and voice across all communications.
The refresh responded to several challenges. Over time, Burlington Hydro’s tone, visuals, and messaging had become inconsistent, and its visual identity no longer reflected its role as a trusted community utility. The brand refresh created an opportunity to modernize how the organization communicates while reinforcing reliability, safety, and customer focus.
The project set out to clarify Burlington Hydro’s purpose and story, build a consistent visual identity, and ensure employees could confidently apply the brand in their daily work. The refreshed brand includes clear messaging, defined values, and updated visual elements like colours, typography, and imagery.
Burlington Hydro rolled out the new brand in phases. The process began with leadership alignment and employee input to shape the brand’s foundation. The utility worked with an external agency to develop the new identity, then introduced it internally through launch sessions, templates, and clear guidelines. These tools helped staff apply the brand consistently across communications.
Burlington Hydro updated their external communications such as social media, email, and print resources. Additional platforms, including a website refresh, will follow in 2026.
The new brand has already shown early results. Social media engagement increased after the new templates launched, and employees now have clearer tools to support consistent communication. Overall, the brand refresh strengthens trust, improves clarity, and presents Burlington Hydro as a modern, community focused utility ready for the future, while also providing a fantastic blueprint for LDCs looking to update their brand.
