From Maintenance to Emergency Response: Ontario Utilities Lean on ERTH as a Trusted Utility Contractor

At ERTH Corporation, our commitment to supporting Ontario utilities extends from proactive substation maintenance to pole line construction and rapid emergency response. As a trusted utility services provider, ERTH helps local distribution companies (LDCs) maintain reliable infrastructure and provides storm damage repair when the unexpected strikes.

Proactive Maintenance

Regular substation inspections are critical for identifying risks early and maintaining equipment reliability. ERTH’s comprehensive maintenance program complies with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) and NETA testing standards, helping utilities strengthen their asset management programs and reduce exposure to costly failures.

“ERTH’s proactive substation inspections have helped us identify issues early, and their recommendations have been invaluable in guiding our maintenance planning,” said Jacob Weninger, Manager of Metering at Entegrus. “Their detailed reports, complete with photos, give us confidence that nothing is being overlooked and allow us to monitor changes over time.”

Emergency Response

When a severe ice storm swept through central Ontario in March 2025, ERTH crews quickly mobilized to assist with restoration efforts - dispatching multiple trucks and team members to the Alliston area.

“The damage caused by the 2025 ice storm was severe and widespread, causing uprooted trees, downed lines and more than 2,700 broken poles across the province. In those challenging days, the Canadian spirit of partnership shone through. Our crews, alongside 30 utility partners and contractors, including ERTH Corporation, worked day and night in freezing rain, snow, and wind to restore power to communities. ERTH’s prompt and smooth support made a significant impact, and we thank all our partners for standing shoulder to shoulder with us when Ontarians needed it most”, said Darryl Murray, Front Line Manager at Hydro One.

As extreme weather events become more frequent, collaboration between utilities and contractors is essential to ensuring resilience and responsiveness during times of crisis. ERTH is proud to stand alongside utilities across the province in maintaining infrastructure and providing critical support when it’s needed most.
