Lakeland Power Commits to Doubling EV Charging Network by Fall 2026
Lakeland EV Charging is doubling their EV charging network by Fall 2026, taking their total to nearly 60 chargers across Central Ontario. These new chargers, and Lakeland’s partnership with Chargehub Passport Hub, will simplify EV travel through the region, reducing stress for families looking to get away to Muskoka for a weekend.
In May 2023, Lakeland EV Chargers, a division of Lakeland Power, spent $3 million to improve reliability and availability of EV charging in Central Ontario. They now operate 16 charging stations in Parry Sound, Sundridge, Seguin Township, Burk’s Falls, Huntsville, and Bracebridge. Each station has several chargers, and together they can charge up to 58 vehicles at once.
Phase 2 of their expansion is underway, which will add 17 new stations and 50 more chargers across Central Ontario. This will bring the company’s total to 33 stations and 108 chargers. Over half of the new chargers will be dual-port DC fast chargers, which can provide enough power for about 100 km of driving in 10 minutes.
Along with the new chargers, Lakeland announced their partnership with Chargehub Passport Hub, a platform that unifies EV charging networks under a single app.
Traditionally, companies have completely siloed charging networks. On a long road trip, drivers are likely to exit one network’s service area and enter another. This means drivers must download a new app, check where the chargers are, plan their route while referencing multiple apps, then input that route into their navigation system.
Chargehub lets users see all partnered chargers, map their routes between the chargers, and pay for the recharge, all through the app. Through this partnership, Lakeland is joining North America’s largest EV charger network, with more than 20,000 chargers across Canada.
With this expansion, and the integration with Chargehub, Lakeland Power is helping make EV charging hubs more accessible and less intimidating for those who live in Northern Ontario, away from urban centres.
