Regulatory Streamlining

In 2010, the Association initiated a project to identify ways to streamline the current regulatory framework in consultation with its local distribution company (LDC) members. The resulting recommendations, supported by the membership and approved by the EDA Board, include:

· Revising the Interim Rate Mechanism Application Process
· Revising the Cost of Service Application Process
· Revising the Intervenor Process

The EDA is calling on decision-makers to adopt these recommendations to improve regulatory oversight, reduce regulatory costs and ultimately benefit customers.

In his 2011 Annual Report released on December 5, Ontario’s Auditor General highlighted the need for regulatory change in the electricity sector in a variety of areas, aligning closely with the recommendations in the EDA’s Regulatory Streamlining report.
